After two unforgettable weeks with my family in New Zealand, I’m feeling a shift. Our family has been living a life many dream of - jet-setting to beautiful places around the world for multiple weeks at a time, all thanks to the financial freedom we’ve built. In the past year we’ve explored Patagonia, searched for penguins and seals off the coast of Chile, hiked up Mount Fuji in Japan, drove on the Autobahn to see Taylor Swift (only one speeding ticket later!), and climbed through the craters of Mount Doom (from Lord of the Rings) in New Zealand.
But something about this trip was different.
One night in the small town of Wanaka, we attended the local Christmas tree lighting – the tree was small, and the lights couldn’t be seen since it was still daylight until 10pm, but it was still magical. The next morning we walked down to the creek, where the whole town was gathered again for the annual rubber duck race. The town was cozy, simple, and community-focused - like stepping into a Hallmark movie. There were no raucous crowds, no endless construction noise, no big-city traffic. Just families gathered together, laughing, connecting, and enjoying the moment. It stirred something in me.
Financial freedom has given us choices. It’s allowed us to show our boys, now 10 and 13, the world beyond our neighborhood. They’ve seen new cultures, tasted new foods, and learned to navigate the unfamiliar with confidence. But it’s also given us the opportunity to pause, reflect, and ask, “What kind of life do we want next?”
The answer, I think, is balance. The thrill of new adventures will always call to us, but there’s something about quiet moments in small, connected communities that feels just as rich. Financial freedom isn’t just about travel - it’s about choice. And right now, I’m beginning to see that choosing peace might be the ultimate luxury.
Where in your life are you craving less hustle and more calm? Financial freedom can offer that too. It’s not just about bigger bank accounts—it’s about having the power to design a life that feels truly yours.
If you’re on a journey to build that kind of freedom, know that it’s possible. It starts with clarity and a plan. And sometimes, it leads you to a small town on the other side of the world where rubber duck races remind you of what really matters.
